In June, my husband, Jason, along with our 17-year old daughter and 11-year son moved from California to Phoenix. People thought we were crazy to pick up and make such a big move so quickly, but we could, so why not. Since we didn't HAVE to move, we told each other if our kids were up for it (we would have never moved our teenager the summer before her senior year), then we had nothing to lose. Surprisingly, both were up for the "adventure".
I had never lived out of state, but was completely up for the change. Aside from the awesome group of friends we left behind and having our family close, we love living here. We have settled in the Ahwatukee community, and have found it to be a great family oriented area with great schools. With my children all settled and my husband knee-deep in his business (www.dxlus.com - yes, shameless plug), it was time for me to figure out what to do.
Up to this point, my career has included running a variety of small business and organizations in the automotive/motorsports industry. During that time, I was also lucky enough to travel the world with two major professional racing series as a Pace Car/Safety Car driver. The experience was amazing, but the team was disbanded this year as a result of a merger with NASCAR. So, after twenty five years surrounded by cars & race cars, i was ready for a big change.
A boutique was it, and I couldn't be happier. My daughter, Chance, works at the store with me, and there is nothing better than working with your kids and seeing them thrive (especially since she leaves for college in a couple of months!) Though I'm not new to running a business, I'm new to this industry. I am learning all about our customers and what they want and we are getting in new inventory all the time.
BUSINESS PRACTICES & PHILOSOPHY
NO-NONSENSE: I believe in realistic and fair practices, so there won't be some obnoxiously short return policy where you can only exchange something for store credit. If you add your name & email to our database, we'll even keep a copy of your receipt for you.
SHOP LOCAL: Yes, sometimes it's a little out of your way to shop local, but we should all at least try to support each other. And, if you don't shop at adelaide, then shop at the other great boutiques in the area.
LOCAL ARTISTS: We support creative individuals who create. If you have a product, stop by or email me and let's see if it's a good fit for the store.
FAMILY OWNED & OPERATED: My daughter, Chance, and my husband's cousin, Heather, make up the sales team at adelaide. I will be very hands on with the store and work very hard to see it succeed.
GIFT WRAPPING: You can always walk out of adelaide with a gift that is ready to give, so you can mark one more thing off your list of things to do!
VALET SERVICE: You heard right... valet service. You will be able to go on line and shop, find something you like, then purchase it, and pick it up wrapped and ready to go. So, if you are short on time, let us help.
